Giant Dog Breaks Into Neighbor’s House, Gets Worse When Owner Finds Out How

A dog owner was stunned to discover her Great Dane had broken into her neighbor’s home and even more shocked when she found out how.
Laura, from Arizona, who chose not to provide her last name, inherited her dog Bruce two years ago after her father died aged just 52. “I’m a single mom with three kids, so it has been an adventure to say the least,” she told Newsweek.
It has been quite an adventure for Bruce, too; he has developed a neat sideline in breaking in and out of seemingly enclosed spaces. “It has been a continuous problem with Bruce escaping,” Laura said.

One of the most notable instances of this happening involved her next-door neighbor. “My mom was visiting and my neighbor came by to tell us that she had turned around and Bruce was in her kitchen,” Laura said. “He had broken out of my house and into her house and was just standing there patiently waiting in the kitchen for snacks.”
Laura was initially baffled as to how Bruce had managed it. Then she witnessed it firsthand: her dog had learned how to open doors. It is not just doors with handles either; sliding doors, too. Though his new trick had Laura cursing, it’s a reminder of just how smart our pups are.
In 2009, psychologist and leading canine researcher Stanley Coren told the American Psychological Association that dogs are capable of understanding more than 150 words and can even intentionally deceive other canines and people to get treats.
Bruce certainly had no qualms about sneaking out the house when he thought there could be food on offer in the kitchen next door and, as Laura has already mentioned, this kind of thing is far from an isolated incident.

Laura said there was another time he came home and had “stolen another dog, brought it home and back into the house.”

“I woke up to a random dog jumping on my bed and opening my front door in a towel after hearing banging because the dog owner had chased the animals back to my house,” Laura said.
“Another time, a different gentleman brought him back, I asked him how he knew where I lived? He stated his mom was the mailman and had seen Bruce escape.”
Not everyone in the neighborhood is quite so enamored with Bruce, though.
“I do have one neighbor who is the real neighbor from hell,” Laura said. “Bruce pooped in his yard, and I understand being upset, but I wish he would have just spoken to me and let me know what happened. Instead, he proceeded to pick up the poop and place it in my boat for revenge.”
Despite these occasional moments of drama, she would not have her Great Dane any other way, and he remains a largely popular figure. “Luckily, Bruce is the sweetest dog ever,” Laura said.
She might want to think about putting a few extra locks on those doors, though.
